Shanghai, Oct. 17 (xinhua) -- a group of 36 health officials, western doctors and medical professors from 19 countries along the "One Belt And One Road" route on four continents gathered in Shanghai on Monday. They will visit the affiliated hospital of Shanghai university of traditional Chinese medicine, community health center and experience a series of cultural activities to understand the status and role of traditional Chinese medicine in China during their three-week stay.

The "One Belt And One Road" TCM seminar for top medical practitioners in China opened on 17th in Shanghai university of traditional Chinese medicine. At the opening ceremony, professor xu jianguang, President of Shanghai university of traditional Chinese medicine, said that the seminar was an opportunity to show the development status of traditional Chinese medicine in China and provided colleagues from One Belt And One Road countries with the opportunity to brainstorm and discuss the future prospects of integrated medicine.

Today, chronic noncommunicable diseases and an aging population are major health problems facing humanity, xu said. In China, people use TCM to improve symptoms, improve quality of life and prevent diseases. Today, traditional Chinese medicine is used not only in primary health care, but also in innovation and new drug discovery.

The President pointed out that traditional Chinese medicine has made an indelible contribution to the health of the Chinese nation and remains an indispensable force in the health system to this day. The concept of taking people as the foundation and giving attention to both treatment and prevention advocated by Chinese medicine can draw on the strengths of modern medicine. He said that exchanges and mutual learning between different cultures play an important role in the progress of human civilization.

After the opening ceremony, Chen kaixian, former President of Shanghai university of traditional Chinese medicine and an academician of the Chinese academy of sciences, gave a keynote speech entitled "the development of traditional Chinese medicine and world medicine". From the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, the challenges faced by modern medicine, the status and role of traditional Chinese medicine in modern times, the development trend of traditional Chinese medicine and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine, he introduced to the trainees the development of modern Chinese medicine and the unique role it plays in promoting people's health.

Chen kaixian pointed out that the effective control of NCDS requires a fundamental change in the medical model, that is, a new medical model combining physiological, psychological, social and environmental factors instead of biomedicine. Only medicine, he argues, whose primary purpose is to "prevent disease and promote health," is "affordable and therefore sustainable" and "likely to be 'fair' and 'just' medicine."

Chen kaixian said that traditional Chinese medicine is ancient and new. Many of its ideas, theories and practices are actually ahead of contemporary science. The overall, multi-target and multi-level effect and regulation of TCM show important value and significance to complex chronic diseases. This scholar believes that traditional Chinese medicine is a new medical model combining physiology, psychology, society and environment, providing the core idea and theoretical basis for curing diseases.

This seminar is sponsored by education committee of Shanghai and organized by Shanghai university of traditional Chinese medicine. It is a special research project established by education, a domestic higher institution of traditional Chinese medicine, for top medical practitioners in countries along "One Belt And One Road". The school said that it will systematically introduce and demonstrate the medical policies, clinical advantages, technological innovation and life view of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) through theme lectures, visits and doctor exchanges and other forms, and demonstrate the unique charm of "Shanghai TCM" in the development of TCM.
