Bovine lactoferrin can resist helicobacter pylori

Recently, researchers at the zhejiang academy of traditional Chinese medicine, after years of research, have made important achievements in the research and development of the resistant helicobacter pylori bacterium with bovine ferritin, providing a new solution for the eradication of the drug-resistant helicobacter pylori.



China is a country with high infection rate of helicobacter pylori, the infection rate is as high as 41.35%~72.3%, and with the wide development of helicobacter pylori treatment, the resistance of helicobacter pylori increases, leading to the gradual decrease of eradication rate. Over the past 20 years, treatment regimens have changed from triple to quadruple, with longer treatment courses and higher doses, but limited efficacy and increased side effects. Resistance to clarithromycin, the traditional antibiotic treatment, has reached 20 percent, while metronidazole is up to 50 percent. In terms of helicobacter pylori eradication rate, the first-line eradication rate is only 80%, while the triple eradication rate has been reduced to 64.3%.



Traditional Chinese medicine believes that milk can repair deficiency damage, yifei stomach, sheng jin runchang, treatment of weak strain, anti-stomach choking diaphragm. It is also recorded in compendium of materia medica that milk can "treat nausea in the stomach, supplement and pain, embellish the large intestine, treat gas dysentery and remove jaundice". The lactoferrin in cow's milk can inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, or destroy the cell membrane of harmful bacteria, and have the effect of killing bacteria. Inspired by this, zhu wanping, a researcher at the research institute of traditional Chinese medicine in zhejiang province, began to study the relative activity of bovine ferritin against helicobacter pylori.



Since 2000, the research institute of traditional Chinese medicine of zhejiang province has carried out studies on the anti-helicobacter pylori effect of bovine ferritin. It has been found that bovine ferritin can not only inhibit the breeding of helicobacter pylori by repairing the gastric mucosa, but also directly inhibit its growth.



Combined use of bovine lactoferrin and antibiotics can increase the effectiveness of helicobacter pylori eradication, with no side effects, and also with strains resistant to metronidazole and clarithromycin. In 2008, zhu wanping published a research paper on the treatment of helicobacter pylori infection in rats in the journal of modern Chinese pharmacology, and the conclusion was that bovine ferritin can inhibit the helicobacter pylori infection in rats' stomachs at a certain dose. In further studies, it was found that the lactoferrin is effective against the resistant helicobacter pylori. The study on the treatment of helicobacter pylori with lactoferrin provides a new approach for the treatment of drug-resistant helicobacter pylori infection and provides experimental and clinical basis for the eradication of refractory helicobacter pylori infection.



This achievement has obtained the investment of 20 million yuan from the cooperative enterprise, the fund will be used for the r&d of bovine lactoferrin as a new drug, and the efforts to realize the transformation and industrialization of scientific research achievements. The joint venture has obtained the only license for raw materials production in China in June, which means it has taken an important step in the transformation of research results. Chai kequn, President of the zhejiang academy of traditional Chinese medicine, said that as the construction unit of the national key institute of traditional Chinese medicine, the institute should do a good job in scientific research and better apply the research results to better serve the society.
